Just Hired: Elizabeth Orwig

Just Hired! Through the experiences of local, regional, national and international students, Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ» has some incredible alumni who are changing the world in the workforce. This series will feature students from all over the world who are hired post-graduation.
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - Meet Elizabeth Orwig, a WIU's Special Education program graduate who has accepted a position as a Junior High Special Education teacher at Colona Grade School.
"When I graduated, I knew I wanted to live in the Quad Cities," Orwig said. "I went on the Illinois Education Job Bank and applied to teaching positions near me. I interviewed with Colona and absolutely fell in love with the school and community."
Orwig credits her time at Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»with shaping her career readiness and professional success.
"At WIU, I learned how to set goals and tailor an academic experience to achieve said goals," Orwig said. "The School of Education at Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»has supported me from the time I was a freshman in 2020 to even now, post-graduation. I am so thankful for their care and preparation for my career readiness."
Looking ahead, Orwig plans to stay connected to WIU.
"I hope to come back to Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»for my graduate work," Orwig said. "I also plan on staying in touch with the wonderful people I met at WIU!"
