Knowles Named February EOM
February 24, 2025

MACOMB, IL - - Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ» employee Danielle Knowles has been named the February 2025 Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month.
Knowles exemplifies her dedication to the University, the School of Nursing program, students and colleagues through her daily contributions. Her generosity is evident in her habit of providing fresh fruits and vegetables from her garden for everyone in Currens Hall to enjoy. She also donates food to students, ensuring they are physically prepared for their classes and studies.
Beyond this, she takes great care to maintain a clean and well-organized laboratory environment for both visitors and students. She actively assists professors by ensuring all equipment functions properly during tests and supports the monitoring of students during examinations.
Recently, Knowles demonstrated her proactive approach by assisting a visitor from Blessing Hospital, efficiently setting up a table and chairs for their visit while simultaneously aiding an instructor with testing. Her ability to identify needs and take initiative underscores her dedication to the success of WIU's Nursing Department.
Knowles frequently goes above and beyond by coming in early or working late, even on holidays, to ensure students can complete their lab hours. She recognizes that unforeseen circumstances can arise and willingly steps in to support students who miss their regular hours due to illness or personal matters. Remarkably, she rarely seeks recognition for her efforts, focusing instead on completing tasks that require attention without expectation of reward.
Additionally, Knowles serves as a liaison between the University and external facilities. Her networking skills have facilitated successful requests, such as securing an infant bed donation from Carthage Hospital. Her relationships with past colleagues have positively impacted the Nursing Department, further highlighting her dedication.
When McDonough District Hospital (MDH) donated hospital beds, Knowles ensured that a suitable space was prepared for their arrival and organized their setup in time for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation visit. Her efforts were crucial in presenting the first floor of Currens Hall in excellent condition for this important evaluation of the Nursing Department.
As the Civil Service Employee of the Month, Knowles will receive a $100 stipend (before taxes), a plaque, a reserved parking space and recognition in Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»communications. She will also be eligible for the Civil Service Employee of the Year Award in December.
The Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month Award was established in 2010 through an endowment created by the Goldfarbs. The Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the annual Employee of the Year Award.
Western faculty, staff, administrators and community members who wish to nominate a civil service employee for monthly recognition can contact the Civil Service Employees Council at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
