- Eligible receipients have been accepted into the nursing program or are current students. Additional eligibility requirements are noted for each scholarship.
- Award amount will be determined by the annual interest earnings on the endowment unless otherwise noted for each scholarship.
- Recipient(s) may be chosen by the School of Nursing Scholarship Selection Committee or other as specified for each scholarship.
Dr. Budris Andernovics M.D. Memorial Scholarship
Up to three awards of $1,000. The amount of the scholarship awarded to any student shall be within the discretion of the Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»Foundation, taking into consideration the availability of funds and the total number of deserving and qualified applicants. Criteria: First preference will be given to an incoming freshman or current student and is a resident of the former Industry School District or a resident of the Village of Industry and the surrounding area comprising the Industry School District as it existed at the time of this agreement (April 17, 1990). Second preference shall be given to a student who's birth certificate is signed by Dr. Andernovics. Third preference shall be given to a graduate of Macomb Junior/Senior High School or resident of McDonough County. Fourth preference shall be given to a high school graduate in counties surrounding McDonough County. Fifth preference will be given to a student of Latvian descent. Financial need, academic performance and participation in extracurricular activities may also be considered. Scholarship is renewable. Student must maintain good academic standing at WIU.
CAS School of Nursing Scholarship
The award will be applied to the student's university account, half in the fall semester and half in the spring semester. Criteria: Resident of Illinois, Iowa, or Missouri; Financial need; desire to work in public or communicaty health in rural areas of Illinois. Not renewable.
Dorothy R. "Dode" Hanson Scholarship
The minimum annual award should be $2,000 to be applied to the student's university account, half in the fall semester and half in the spring semester. Criteria: Applicant's legal permanent address for the past year must be in McDonough County, Illinois; preference to a student who demonstrates outstanding service in the field of nursing. Recipient will be chosen by the Hanson Scholarship Committee. Scholarship is renewable. The student must reapply and enter the applicant pool each academic year.
The Germeraad & Memorial Health Scholarship
$5,000.00 each semester (from Memorial Health System and Germeradd Family). Awards are to be applied directly to the recipient’s university account.
- Recipient must be accepted into the school of nursing program
- A 500 word essay on why the student wants to be a nurse
- Two letters of recommendation (at least one must be from a Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»professor)
- Recipients must complete a contract agreeing to work for Memorial Health for two years upon graduation
- No minimum ACT or SAT score required, but may be used in consideration when granting awards
- Recipients will be required to join the Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»Student Nurses Association and remain a member while receiving the scholarship.
LaVern and Nola McEntire Nursing Scholarship
Recommended award amount of $2,000 be applied half fall and half spring to the student's university account. Minimum half-time enrollment (6+ credit hours); first preference to veterans; second preference to students who will reach junior class standing (60+ credit hours earned) prior to disbursement. Scholarship is renewable for students who maintain eligibility requirements and will be automatically renewed up to three years.
Norman & Carmelita Teeter Scholarship
Award amount will be determined each academic year by the donors or the Foundation Executive Director. Criteria: Must have 60 semester hours by the semester of application; financial need is a consideration. Scholarship is renewable. The student must reapply and enter the applicant pool each academic year.
Ron & Gayle Peterson Nursing Scholarship
Criteria: Junior standing; 3.25 or better GPA; demonstrated service to the field of nursing; financial need is NOT a consideration. Scholarship is renewable. The student must reapply and enter the applicant pool each academic year.
Ruth Dexter Scholarship in Nursing
$1,000 to be awarded half in the fall and half in the spring to the student's university account. The purpose of this endowment fund is to award scholarships to an employee(s) of McDonough District Hospital who have been approved by the McDonough District Hospital Loan Grant Committee and who have been accepted into the Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»Nursing Program and wish to pursue their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. If there are not any employees from MDH eligible, the award will be made available to individuals in McDonough County who have been accepted into the Â鶹´«Ã½ÄÚÄ»Nursing Program and wish to pursue a BSN degree and have been approved by the McDonough District Hospital Loan Grant Committee. Selection will be made by the McDonough District Hospital Loan Grant Committee. Scholarship is renewable and automatic as long as all criteria are met.
